 Bahía Blanca future capital city of the New Province

It was founded as a fortress on 11 April 1828 by Colonel Ramón Estomba under the orders of General Juan Manuel de Rosas, being named Fortaleza Protectora Argentina , designed to protect the inhabitants of indians, cattle rustlers, and to protect the coast from Brazilian Navy , which had landed in the area beyond. She was attacked by indians raids on several occasions, particularly in 1859 by 3,000 warriors, led by Cheef Calfucurá  .   


Later in September 1833 the fort would be visited by Charles Darwin in his trip to South America
                                                                                                                               

The fort's location was chosen by Engineer Parchape, considering the most appropriate location and its proximity to a port.

Became a commercially important city after the railroad, he joined the city with Buenos Aires in 1885, which facilitated the export of grain in the region. The rapid growth of the local economy and abundant natural resources of the country, attracted many immigrants, mainly from Spain and Italy , who settled in the region.

The city is located 650 kms . south of Buenos Aires and is head of the party of the same name , with a population of 301,572 inhabitants according to the census of 2010.

Bahía Blanca have the first deepwater port,  that allows great grain bunkers and ships carrying containers, for quick and easy export production in the region and other provinces as Rio Negro, La Pampa , Mendoza .

Today is an important commercial, cultural, educational and sports center , with nationally renowned universities , the Rivadavia Library, the Municipal Theatre, several sports centers and recreational places like the Parque de Mayo.

There is a centuries-old idea, which had several mentors, Carlos Pellegrini , Enrique Julio and others proposed to Bahia Blanca as the capital of a new province
